Dog-baying tourney this weekend

POSTED: December 11, 2007 7:19 a.m.
Ray’s Bay Pen will host a Dog Baying Competition this Saturday and Sunday in Long County.
According to Cliff Ray, who is hosting the day, dog baying is a  tool hunters use to have their dogs track and pursue different animals for a hunt. However during the competitions this weekend, all animals will be safe and unharmed, and the event is sanctioned and approved by the state.
The events scheduled for Saturday include a puppy bay, two-dog bays, a kids’ pig chase and a tough- man competition.
On Sunday, the fun will continue, as there will be a second kids’ pig chase, another dog bay, and a young and old bay.
Admission for the event is $12, children under 12 are admitted free.  Military will also be given free admission with ID card. A restroom is on the site and a concession stand is available. The events will take place rain or shine since there are covered bay pens with lights.
The fun starts at 9 a.m. To get to the event, take Highway 84 and turn at Murray Cross Roads, from there  travel about three miles and signs are posted with directions. For more information you can call Cliff of Kathy Ray at 876-5916.
