The Hinesville Hurricanes will host the first home game of the spring season Saturday at Long Bell Stadium on Highway 84 in Hinesville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the ’Canes will take on the Legion of Zoom from Savannah.
Hurricanes head coach James Sharp said it is the first time his team will play the Zoom, a local motorcycle club and football team from Chatham County.
The ’Canes are coming off a 26-14 St. Patrick’s Day loss to the Knights, a team from Augusta. Sharp said his team was forced to play iron man because several of his players ended up having to work due to last weekend’s festivities.
But Sharp added the ’Canes still did well and are improving as the season progresses. Unlike the last few games, the coach said he expects to have a full squad on the field Saturday.
The Hurricanes once again will dedicate the first home game of the season to the late Mary Jo Sharp. The coach’s wife passed away four years ago after battling a long illness. She was considered the “team mother” and the ’Canes’ biggest fan.
Coach Sharp said the Fort Stewart Youth Challenge Academy will open the event with a presentation of colors, and tickets will be sold for prizes that will be raffled off at halftime. Tickets will be sold during the game at the concession stand, and winners must be present to claim prizes.
Admission for children 12 and younger is free. Admission is $3 for attendees ages 13-18, and adult admission is $5.
