Bryan County man charged for child porn

POSTED: March 26, 2012 3:30 p.m.

A Richmond Hill man has been charged with one count of possessing child pornography, according to authorities.
A presss release from the GBI’s  Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force,  said Steven Miller, 24, of 505 Harris Trail, was charged with one count of possession of child pornagraphy on March 9 after a search warrant was executed at his apartment by the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Miller, 24, was taken to the Bryan County Detention Center in Pembroke, where he was booked and then released on bail the same day.
According to the press release, the search warrant was obtained as a result of evidence developed by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office of software having been used to share child pornography images from a computer at Miller’s apartment on Harris Trail Road.
Authorities allegedly discovered “multiple files of suspected child pornography,” and several computers in Miller’s residence were seized as evidence, the release said.
The investigation is part of an ongoing effort by the ICAC Task Force  housed within the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, to identify those involved in the child porn trade.
According to the press release, the ICAC was created by the U. S. Department of Justice in response to an increasing number of children and teenagers using the Internet, the proliferation of child pornography and the heightened online activity by predators searching for unsupervised contact with underage victims. The Task Force consists of 150 affiliate Georgia law enforcement agencies.
In 2008, the Georgia ICAC Task Force made 109 arrests and in 2009 made 164 arrests.
In 2010, the Task Force made 162 arrests and in 2011,  made 173 arrests. There have been 808 arrests in Georgia by the ICAC Task Force since it was established in 2002, the release said.
