Next Sunday, children will sport their finest Easter outfits and head to church with their families after digging through baskets filled with goodies. Some may even search for eggs that the Easter Bunny has hidden around their yards.

In the meantime, though, there are several events planned for this Saturday that will entertain adults and children of all ages as they eagerly await next weekend’s festivities.

The Long County Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the Long County Chamber of Commerce, the city of Ludowici and the Long County 4-H Club, is set for 9 a.m. at Friendship Park. The egg hunt is for children 7 and younger, but everyone is invited to come out and have a good time. The Easter Bunny is supposed to make an appearance, and there will be plenty of candy-filled eggs. For more information, call Tina Skipper at 545-0038 or Tim Works at 271-3031.

Sports fans who want to catch a good softball game and contribute a charitable cause in the process should head to the Long County Recreation Department for the Relay for Life Softball Tournament. Registration begins at 9:15 a.m., and the first pitch will be thrown at 10 a.m. There are men’s and women’s brackets, and the entry fee is only $10 per person. All proceeds benefit the Long County Relay for Life. For more information, call 256-1460.

After the egg hunt and the softball tournament, young ladies from Liberty, Wayne and Long counties will compete in the Tri-County Easter Beauty Pageant at Long County High School. There will be eight age divisions, from newborn to the 19-and-older category.

There will be a winner in each category, and trophies will be awarded for the prettiest smile, best dress, most sponsored and the people’s choice. The entry fee is $50 per contestant. Audience admission to the pageant is $5.

All proceeds from the pageant support the KIDZ-ETC scholarship program. The pageant begins at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. For more information, call Kelli Mock at 294-0145 or Debbie Gaitten at 545-8860.
