FPCA, Toombs end game in tie

POSTED: March 28, 2012 11:10 a.m.

First Presbyterian Christian Academy played Toombs Christian Academy to a 7-7 tie on Friday in Lyons.
The Georgia Independent School Association Region 2-AA game was called after seven innings.
Region games don’t normally end in a tie, but according to Highlander baseball coach Bruce Green, circumstances caused the game to called.
“First, we had a weather delay,” Green said. “And then we resumed play, but we eventually ran out of daylight. Unfortunately, not all schools have lights so the officials had to stop the game.”
If the Highlanders and the Crusaders end the season with the same record, a tie-breaker will be scheduled to determine the final seeding before the postseason tournament.
FPCA scored one run in the second inning, two in the fourth and four in the seventh.
Toombs scored one run in the third inning, two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Highlanders Ricky Gilliard, Michael Lovelady and Jake Lee each had one hit with one RBI. James Phillips, Phillip Swindell and Dalton Smiley each had one RBI.
Richard Lovelady pitched four innings, walking four, striking out three and giving up one earned run.
Cameron Riley pitched two innings, walking one batter, striking out two and giving up three earned runs.
Jake Lee pitched one inning, walking one striking out one and giving up one earned run.
The Highlanders are 1-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the region. They were scheduled to play Tuesday at Memorial Day and will host Faith Baptist at 4 p.m. Thursday.
In other baseball news, the Liberty County Panthers played Glynn Academy Friday in Brunswick, where the Red Terrors won, 11-1, in five innings. The Panthers fall to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in Region 2A-AAAA. Liberty is scheduled to host Richmond Hill in a region matchup at 6 p.m. Friday.
