Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

The garbage workers who work the 1000 block of Bacon Road, please come back out on Bacon Road and clean up your mess that you left from picking up the garbage. You left a big mess.

The word on the street is that the Long County Sheriff is having to do two jobs — sheriff of the county and resource officer at the school, and he’s getting paid for both jobs. Is this dedication or greed? You make the call.

The absolute most corrupt politicians in Georgia are in Long County. A prominent attorney told me, it is not that they in Long County mean to tell lies. It’s just that they are ignorant of the laws. That’s a poor excuse.

Liberty County needs to put a no-smoking ban, especially at Walmart. I went to Walmart the other day and came out, and with half the employees, it smelled like a dang smoke factory. So they need to put a ban in the county, and in the city, too.

This is to the caller who said it’s unfair for a coach to play an eighth-grader ahead of a ninth-grader: If the eighth-grader is better than the ninth-grader, he should play and make his team win.
