Midway resident awarded PAGE scholarship

POSTED: December 11, 2007 7:19 a.m.
Midway resident Sarah Elizabeth Trawick is the recipient of a student Professional Association of Georgia Educators Undergraduate Scholarship, awarded each year through the Professional Association of Georgia Educators Foundation.
The $1,000 scholarship goes to an outstanding SPAGE member in a teacher education program who will soon be entering Georgia’s classrooms. Recipients agree to teach in Georgia for three years.
Trawick is an early childhood education major and attends Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah.
Tom Wommack, president of the PAGE Foundation, noted that each year PAGE awards more than $15,000 in scholarships to aspiring and veteran Georgia educators. “Our 72,000 PAGE members are very aware of the need to ‘grow our own’ next generation of qualified teachers. It is very satisfying to PAGE that our scholarship program, administered through the PAGE Foundation, continues to assist young people in their efforts to become professional educators,” Wommack said.
Through its sponsorship of Future Educators Association of Georgia (FEA of GA), Student Professional Association of Georgia Educators (SPAGE) and PAGE Foundation Scholarships, the PAGE Foundation works to recruit capable people to the teaching profession and provide career-long professional learning opportunities for educators.
The PAGE Foundation also sponsors academic competitions for students including PAGE STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition), the PAGE Georgia Academic Decathlon (GAD) and the PAGE Academic Bowl for Middle Grades.
PAGE, the parent organization of the Foundation, is a nonunion, statewide professional association of more than 72,000 teachers, administrators and support personnel members with the purpose of promoting better education for the children of Georgia.
