The Long County High School baseball team dropped a tough game to Tattnall County on Tuesday in Ludowici.
Going into the top of the seventh inning, it was still anybody’s contest as the Battle Creek Warriors held a 6-5 lead over the Blue Tide.  But in that inning, the Reidsville team scored seven runs to put the game out of reach and secure the 12-5 victory.
Taking the loss for the Tide was pitcher John Christianson, while the leading batters for Long County were Luke Golden, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI; Cole Ray, who was 2-for-3 with a run scored; Shane Deloach, who also was 2-for-3; and Tristan Goodro who was 1-for-3 with a double.
“This was a tough-fought contest. The final score doesn’t represent the intensity of the game. I thought we played a good game, but not a complete game.
Tattnall County is very well coached and have a ton of great players,” Blue Tide head coach Brian Thomas said.
The loss was the fourth in a row for the Long County team, dropping its overall record to 5-11 and their Region 2-AA record to 1-8.
The win improved Tattnall County to 10-6 and 4-6, respectively.
Though the Blue Tide lost, Thomas said that he is seeing improvement in his team and believes that the wins will come.
“I am starting to see more and more progress from our team. I think that we are starting to see that hard work and commitment will eventually lead us to wins,” he said.
Today, the Blue Tide is back on the road to take on Pierce County and the difficult task of having to take on one of the best teams in the state. The Herons go into tonight’s game with a 14-3 record and ranked by GaPrepCountry/GACA as the No. 2 team in the state.
The Herons are coming off shutout wins over Toombs County and Vidalia High School in which they outscored their opponents 21-0. The game starts at 6 p.m. in Blackshear.
