The Hinesville Hurricanes are sporting a 4-1 overall record after defeating the Tri-County Panthers, 22-14, last Saturday at home.
The semi-professional football team, which already claimed a conference championship in 2010, is making a run for another title in the United Spring Football League’s Southern Division.
Against Tri-County, Hurricanes running back Devon Grey scored a touchdown on a run, Charles Crossley scored a touchdown on a Frank Troup pass and Joseph Matavao scored a rushing touchdown and the two-point conversion for the win.
The Hurricanes have a battle coming up Saturday hosting the undefeated Georgia Hurricanes from Atlanta.
“They have 70 players,” Hinesville coach James Sharp said. “I heard they were good, and with 70 players, we are getting ready to find out which Hurricane team is a bigger and stronger storm.”
Sharp added the Atlanta squad has watched video of his team in action that has been posted on YouTube. He said they’ve watched some videos of them as well and anticipate a good game.
“They are bringing two busloads of players and fans from Atlanta,” Sharp said. “We hope the people in the community will come out and support us, so we can fill the stands.”
The game will start at 7 p.m. at Long Bell Stadium in Hinesville.
Concessions will be available, and raffle tickets will be sold during the game for a prize that will be drawn for at halftime.
Winners must be present to claim the prizes.
