According to a news report written by Jeff Howe on bleacherreport.com, former Bradwell Institute football player and Hinesville native Gary Guyton will be visiting with the Miami Dolphins this week.
The Boston Herald’s website was reporting that Guyton will meet with the Dolphins on Tuesday.
Guyton entered free agency this year, and earlier news reports said the four-year New England Patriot linebacker likely would not be returning to Bill Belichick’s team this season.
Guyton made an immediate impact with the Patriots, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in May 2008. According to the Patriots’ website, he was the only undrafted rookie to make the team’s opening-day roster. Guyton recorded 22 solo tackles, four tackle assists, defended three passes, recovered two fumbles and made seven special teams tackles that season.
After long-time Patriots star linebacker Tedy Bruschi retired in 2009, Guyton took his place in the lineup and started all 16 games at inside linebacker.

He finished second on the team with 91 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and four passes defended. In 2010, Guyton played in 16 games with eight starts. He finished the season with 63 total tackles and a career-high three sacks. He recorded his first forced fumble and fumble recovery, which he returned for a touchdown. He also tallied two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.
Guyton was tapped twice during the past four seasons to be the defensive captain during Jerod Mayo’s injuries.
According to the news report, Guyton’s playing time decreased last season, and he was a healthy scratch for all three playoff games. That prompted Guyton to seek opportunities elsewhere, the report added.
