President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will meet Friday with troops, veterans and military families at Fort Stewart in Hinesville, according to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, who released the news during a Friday afternoon briefing but provided no additional details.

Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson on Friday said he could not offer any additional information regarding the president’s upcoming appearance on Fort Stewart and advised that media inquiries at this time be directed to the White House Press Office. A call to the press office regarding Obama’s Fort Stewart trip agenda was not returned at press time.

The president last visited the Coastal Empire area in March 2010, when he landed in Air Force One at Hunter Army Airfield, delivered a speech at Savannah Technical College and toured other businesses in the area as part of the White House to Main Street Tour.

During Obama’s 16-minute presentation inside Savannah Tech’s Eckburg Auditorium, he touted his “Homestar” energy-improvement program, which focuses on incentives for homeowners to make their homes more energy-efficient and job creation.

Obama did not tour Fort Stewart during his 2010 visit.
