The Long County 4-H Club recently received its annual Vidalia Onion donation from Clifton and Linda DeLoach.

“The onions are our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Long County 4-H Program assistant Lisa Overbey said.

Overbey said this is the seventh year the DeLoaches have donated onions.

“It was Clifton that came to me seven years ago with this idea and every year, it never fails, he and Linda have come through for the 4-H’ers in this program,” she said.

“These kids do a great job in our community. They always are cleaning up a road, or working somewhere. And Linda and I are glad that we can do this for them,” Clifton DeLoach said.

In addition to the local help, the club this year is receiving help at the national level.

Overbey said that the National 4-H Council recently announced a partnership between the 4-H Paper Clover Campaign and the Tractor Supply Co. She said a national, in-store fundraiser will benefit state and local 4-H Clubs in each of the communities where a Tractor Supply store is located. Overbey said from May 2-13 stores will sell 4-H Paper Clovers for $1 each. Proceeds raised in the Jesup store will go to clubs in Wayne and Long counties.

“I’m so thankful for the people and businesses like the Jesup Tractor Supply, and all of their employees for their continuing support,” Long County 4-H Club President Kayla Jenkins said. “Without them, many 4-H’ers like myself wouldn’t be able to participate in as many activities as I do.”

Club members are still selling five pound bags of onions for $5. They can be purchased at the 4-H office next to the courthouse in Ludowici, or delivery can be arranged if someone is unable to come by. For more information on the onions or Tractor Supply campaign, call 545-9549.
