Midway Middle School honors veterans

POSTED: December 11, 2007 7:19 a.m.
Midway Middle School students, faculty and staff paid tribute to U.S. veterans during a Veterans Day program Nov. 9. The theme for this year’s program was, “Lest We Forget.”
The program began with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance led by student Samuel Guy, who is currently serving as co-president of the student council. After the pledge, Principal Debra Frazier, welcomed the group and expressed how pleased the MMS family was to have the veterans attend. Teacher Tina Floyd saluted the veterans with a melodic rendition of “America” — a real crowd pleaser.
Veterans and their children enjoyed a hot breakfast as they listened to the guest speaker, Mayor Pro Tem David Anderson Sr.
Anderson is a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War. Throughout his presentation, he reiterated, “freedom is not free - it comes with a price.” He also gave the audience a quick history lesson of the various wars the U.S. has been involved in as well as a brief synopsis of the different ways that one becomes a veteran.
A staff member said, “It was very refreshing to see the young soldiers from Fort Stewart and the older veterans at this celebration.”
