Hinesville native awarded Purple Heart

Brig. Gen. Mark Hendrix, deputy commander for the 21st Theater Sustainment Command in Kaiserslautern, Germany, pins a Purple Heart on Sgt. Sherese N. McNair who was injured in Iraq in April 2011.

Sgt. Sherese Nicole McNair recently received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during combat operations in Iraq in April 2011.

Presenting the award was Brig. Gen. Mark Hendrix, deputy commander for the 21st Theater Sustainment Command in Kaiserslautern, Germany. McNair has served in the Army for 10 years as a heavy vehicle driver. She was injured when debris from an explosion hit her truck during a mission.

She is a member of the 51st Transportation Company in Mannheim, Germany. The mother of three is a native of Hinesville.
