Howdy, friends and neighbors. Hope you have enjoyed the holiday weekend thus far.
Remember, if you plan on being out on the water this Memorial Day, make sure you have your craft in order. Have plenty of life vests, always carry a small tank of extra fuel and have lots of water and plenty to eat. It’s always better to have too much than not enough. If you do have boat trouble, you will be well equipped until help arrives. Better safe than sorry.
Many marinas in our area are reporting sea trout, black drum and spot tail bass being caught around St. Catharines and Sapelo Sounds.
I do have a couple of reports from John Rogers. Lyle McGrath and Lance Muller, who were fishing with John last weekend, netted 15 nice-sized trout. John said a few were 2 to 3 pounds. A few days before, Phillip McCallar and Steven Crawley went fishing with John and had 29 beautiful trout deck-side. Well, we know the trout are biting — and that’s a good thing.
The dock tour launched last weekend with Boo Hall and myself. On Friday afternoon, we hit three doormat flounder, and we nailed four more on Saturday. So if you are out boating this weekend, make sure you take a pole and wet a hook; you may come home with supper.
Let me take this time to say God bless all of the veterans around the world, and God bless all the men and women serving our great country. This weekend always makes me think about my dad Old Tight Line. He was a World War ll veteran and told me many stories of his time there. Some I will carry with me always.
If you need bait:
• Yellow Bluff has live shrimp and minnows.
• Half Moon Marina has live shrimp.
• Midway Feed and Supply has fresh and saltwater bait.
• Sunbury Crab Company has live minnows and may have shrimp by the weekend.
Until next time, have a safe and happy holiday weekend. Like Old Tight line always said: “Get out there and go fishing, and if you do, remember to always keep a tight line.” I say get out there and wet a hook — it’s good for the soul. Smooth sailing, friends, until we meet again.
