The Liberty County United Way sponsored another of its periodic food distributions to 527 households in Liberty County on May 22 at the Schumann Center in Hinesville.

A record-breaking 17,850 pounds of essential food items were distributed. It was purchased from Second Harvest of Savannah and allowed each family in need to take home 34 pounds of food to feed their families.

Dozens of volunteers filled bags with the staples, including canned vegetables, shelf stable milk, bread, cereal and 15 pounds of frozen chicken.

Volunteers from the Faith Baptist Christian Academy JROTC, Liberty County Child Support Enforcement, Centurylink, Restoration Church, Crossroads Baptist Church, Sistaz with Visionz Social Club, R.T. Sikes Homes, the Liberty County Recreation Department and the advisory board United Way-Liberty started early to unload, organize, package and distribute the groceries over about four hours.
