Hinesville’s Derrick Taylor was named the basketball official of the year by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association. Taylor is a veteran of 24 years of officiating and is a member of the Hinesville Officials Association.

Derrick Taylor of Hinesville was named the basketball official of the year during the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s 74th annual award and 12th annual hall of fame ceremony June 1-2 in Dalton.
He received the award from Earl Etheridge, athletic administrator of the city of Savannah, and Alan Smith, the association’s executive director. Taylor has been an official for 24 years and is a member of the Hinesville Officials Association.
Taylor also officiates college basketball in the Southern and Big South conferences.
