June 10: Criminal damage (second degree) — An officer conducting a security check at Bradwell Institute at 2:35 p.m. found three broken panes of glass on the 200 wing next to the outdoor hallway entrance. The officer conducted a search of the area and found that the glass was broken from inside with impact marks and concrete dust on the inside. On the ground below the window, the officer found a large chunk of concrete and three small pieces. Principal Scott Carrier was called to the scene and briefed on the situation.

Theft by conversion — A Rent-A-Center employee reported that a Glennville man was more than 15 days behind on his rental agreement for a $1,350 refrigerator and a $1,559 TV.

Theft by conversion — A Rent-A-Center employee reported that a Midway couple was more than 15 days behind on their rental agreement for a $480 laptop computer.

Recovered stolen vehicle — A Dodge Charger valued at $18,000 reported stolen from McIntosh County was recovered at 650 S. Main St. The car had a shattered windshield, and the center console and radio were removed. Other items reportedly in the trunk also were missing. The vehicle’s keys were found on the ground by the driver’s door. The vehicle was returned to McIntosh County.

June 12

Burglary-Forced entry — Officers responded to a burglary call at 855 Ridgewood Way. The property’s maintenance man reported finding the sliding glass door had been removed, and several appliances worth a total of $1,300 had been taken. Officers discovered pry marks on windows and doors. Drag marks on the floor indicated the missing stove, dishwasher and side-by-side refrigerator had apparently been taken out through the open sliding door.

June 13

Confiscated property — A Fort Stewart soldier, who was waiting for his case to be heard in municipal court, failed to observe the warning to turn off all electronic devices. His cell phone was confiscated by an officer who saw him sitting in the back of the courtroom using the phone. He told the officer he was “texting his sergeant” but became belligerent when his phone was confiscated. The judge ordered the phone not to be returned. It was stored until an order was signed for it to be destroyed.

June 14

Shoplifting — An employee with Kroger in Hinesville called police when she spotted a man walking out of the store without paying for two 24-packs of beer. She told police the man had first placed the cases of beer next to one of the self-checkout lines. When she and another employee left to help another customer, she said the man grabbed the beer and walked out the store. He appeared to have gone behind the store, she said. The theft of the beer, valued at $38, was supposedly caught on the store’s video cameras.
