The Liberty County All-Stars junior baseball team tipped Ware County for the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 2 championship.

The Liberty County All-Stars junior baseball team edged Ware County on Friday for the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 2 championship.
According to LCRD Director Jimmy Martin, the boys beat Glynn County and Douglas to reach the semifinals against Wayne County. The team shut out Wayne County, 10-0, on Thursday to earn a spot in the finals.
“And that was the closest game we had in the whole tournament,” Martin said. The Liberty County All-Stars junior baseball team edged Ware County on Friday for the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 2 championship.

Against Ware County, the Liberty All-Stars won by one run for the title.

“It’s been since 2005, since we won a district baseball championship,” Martin said, adding that the senior girls’ softball team won the district and the state title last year. “I’m not 100 percent sure without digging into the records, but we haven’t won a boys’ state title in at least 20 years.”

That is what the All-Stars will be looking to do when they head to the state tournament, which starts July 10 in Bainbridge.
The senior girls softball team won the district title as well this year but lost in the state title game to Vidalia.
