July 2: Theft of mislaid property — A Ludowici man reported that his military ID was taken from the Golden Hibachi Buffet on Highway 84. The complainant reportedly left the card at the restaurant, but when he went back to retrieve it, employees said someone who said he knew the complainant picked up the card.
Theft by taking — A resident in the 400 block of Gassaway Street reported $500 worth of electronics stolen from her home after she let a visitor stay overnight. She said she tried to locate the man and checked with a pawn shop to see if he had pawned the items before calling police.
Accidental damage to property — A woman at Shuman Recreation Center reported that her vehicle was hit by a white Liberty County truck. An officer observed a small nick on the passenger side of the complainant’s vehicle. When the officer asked the county employee driving the truck about the incident, she said she did not realize the door would swing so wide.
Suspended license and failure to obey traffic control device — A Fort Stewart soldier was arrested for driving on a suspending license during a traffic stop after making an illegal right turn on red from East Gen. Stewart Way onto East Oglethorpe Highway. He was released to the military police.
Simple assault — An officer was dispatched to a Hollywood Drive mobile home to a fight between two men. When the officer arrived, he saw the men were fighting with a hunting knife and pocket knife. One man was bloody and disoriented, reportedly smelled like alcohol and passed out before coming to and asking responders “Are you angels? Are you taking me to hell?” He was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center for treatment, while the other man said he was defending himself and his opponent had been acting mentally disturbed for a couple of days.
