July 5: Reckless conduct, criminal trespass — A Liberty County Animal Control officer reported that while he was driving north on South Main Street near Farr Court, he saw an object being thrown out of a black truck traveling in the opposite direction. The object hit the windshield, caused three indentations and shattered and scraped the hood. The responding officer met up with the animal control officer and observed the damage, and the men went back to the scene where the vehicle was struck and found a partially filled can of Steel Reserve on the side of the road that appeared to have hit the truck.

Possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce, center lane violation, obstruction — A patrol officer followed a known offender to check the vehicle’s registration status, and the offender made several turns to evade the officer. The driver made a center-lane violation, prompting the officer to pull him over at South Maple Drive and Highway 84. A juvenile passenger fled the vehicle despite orders to remain in the car. Responding officers tracked the passenger to a nearby mobile home park, where officers found a bag of discarded marijuana behind a trailer; the juvenile was taken into custody and released to a relative at the request of the DJJ. Concurrently, officers detected marijuana in the vehicle they had stopped and found traces of the substance throughout the car. The driver was cited for possession of marijuana and center-lane violation and was issued a $1,684 bond.

Theft by taking — An officer was dispatched to a South Main Street mobile park where a resident reported that his wallet was stolen from his bedroom while he took a nap for about an hour and 20 minutes. The complainant said he had hidden the wallet before going to sleep and could not locate it when he awoke, but that he suspected his roommates may be involved. The $50 leather wallet reportedly contained $20 cash, a Georgia ID and other cards.

Entering auto — A resident in the 800 block of Jane Lane reported the window on his vehicle was shattered and several items were stolen overnight between June 4-5. Missing were a $300 flat-screen TV, two $200 sun visor TVs, a $1,100 amplifier and a $1,000 solo speaker. The incident was turned over to detectives for investigation.
