Long County High School baseball player Chase Rogers has been selected for the Baseball Factory National World Series Championship, held Aug. 1-10 in Bradenton, Fla.
Rogers, a senior, will compete against players from across the nation at Pirate City, the spring training facility for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Rogers was nominated to try out for the event by Blue Tide head coach Brian Thomas. Rogers had his tryout June 3 at Kennesaw, with scouts on hand from several colleges, the Seattle Mariners and the Atlanta Braves.
“I’m very excited about going to Bradenton,” Rogers said. “I’ve been playing baseball my whole life and hopefully this will help me get a scholarship and then move on to the next level after college.”
“He has worked so hard. He trains every day, and I couldn’t be any more proud of him than I am right now,” mother Tori Rogers said.
While at the tournament, Chase will play his primary position of first base and his secondary position of pitcher.
He will receive training from professional scouts and former professional coaches and players.
Former coaches have included San Diego Padres’ and Pittsburgh Pirates’ scout Andy Ferguson and Colorado Rockies player Steve Bernhardt.
The training will run for 10 hours each day, including one-on-one instruction, position-specific training and high-intensity tournament competition.
At the end of the tournament, one team will take home the prize of a Pirate City championship.
