Stormy weather hasn’t stopped area anglers

POSTED: August 13, 2012 10:23 a.m.

Hello, all you folks out there in the beautiful coastal region of south Georgia.
Well, you really can tell the dog days of summer are upon us. I know we recently got hit with a couple of storms. I got caught in one, and it took me and hour and a half to get to the coast.
Not a whole lot on the fishing front, but I do have a couple of reports.
The first one comes from Lori Kirk; she works in my doctor’s office, and I saw her Monday.  She said she and her husband Billy caught a nice mess of around 14 trout.  She said, “What else do we need?” I thought for a moment, and then agreed.
Two friends of mine, Bruce Buggs and Donnie Jones, went on a two-day excursion and caught 60 weak fish (summer trout) and 25 croakers. That’s enough to get a few head together, heat the grease and have a fish fry.
Sunbury Crab Company has live shrimp and minnows, Half Moon has live shrimp, and Midway Feed and Supply have frozen shrimp and plenty of fresh water bait.
My friend Capt. Eric Moody of Coastal Expeditions down on Jekyll Island reports that the trout bite is off the hook. Also, they are catching redfish, whiting and some shark.
I suggest you get out there early in the morning or late in the evening; anytime you’re fishing, it’s got to be good.
Remember what Ole Tight Line always said: Get out there and go fishing, and if you do remember to keep a tight line. I say hit the docks, keep a sharp eye and watch that cork go down.
If you get the chance, call a friend or a neighbor and ask them to go fishing. It’s a great way to spend the day with someone. Or take a young person fishing — that smile you see when they hang their first one will be worth it.
Well friends, until next time, smooth sailing.
