Deputy Gary Richardson earned his detective shield, and deputies Corey Nadeau and Shawn Fields received promotions during a ceremony Thursday inside the Justice Center at the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.

Richardson received his detective shield for his work during the past year as a member of the U. S. Marshals Task Force.

“I looked into the opportunity and met with the U.S. Marshals and I found out they had a slot they we could place him in. Some other departments had done that in the past, and I liked the concept,” Liberty County Sheriff Sikes said. “It gives us immediate access through our deputy to a lot of their means and sources toward locating people. It’s a minimal expense to the county but it broadens our scope and abilities by margins.”

Sikes said Richardson attended several specialized training courses since joining the task force and is doing a good job.

“I am getting more and more accolades from his immediate supervisor from the U.S. Marshals Task Force saying he is doing an excellent job for them, which, in turn, gives Liberty County a huge boost in access to a lot of things the department never had before,” Sikes said.

Nadeau received his stripes and was promoted to advanced deputy sheriff. Sikes said Nadeau has been with the department just shy of two years.

“He has excelled as a young deputy and wants to make this his career,” Sikes said. “He is very promotable because of his abilities, and I am proud to offer him that step.”

Fields, who was promoted to lieutenant, has served the department for roughly 18 years in the traffic and K-9 unit.

“Shawn has done an excellent job from day one,” Sikes said, adding that Fields displays leadership and tackles job functions that go above his regular responsibilities.

“It was just natural to promote him,” Sikes said. “He deserves it.”
