Aug. 2: Marijuana possession and headlight violation — A 21-year-old driver was arrested for marijuana possession and violating headlight requirements at Highway 196 West and Mobley Road in Hinesville. A patrol officer reportedly stopped the driver after noticing he was driving with only one headlight and appeared to throw something out the vehicle’s window. A back-up officer used GPS coordinates from the officer’s dash camera to locate the suspicious item tossed from the vehicle, and he found what appeared to be marijuana. The driver was placed under arrest for misdemeanor possession and was transported to the Liberty County Jail for processing.

DUI — A man was arrested for DUI near Wild Heron Road and Seabrook Island Drive in Midway. A patrol officer stopped the driver for not having a light tag and smelled “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” coming from the driver. The driver admitted he had consumed between eight and nine beers during the day and also said he was taking hydrocodone for medical issues and last took the pill about three hours before being stopped. The driver reportedly could not perform a field sobriety test because of having steel rods in his body, but he blew a .108. He received a uniform traffic citation, summons and accusation form for DUI and for tag light requirement.

Aug. 3: DUI and speeding — Two motorcyclists were arrested at Highway 38 and Highway 196 East for speeding and driving under the influence. Two patrol officers noticed the men were driving faster than 70 mph in a 45 zone. One motorcyclist accelerated in an attempt to evade the officers before stopping at a church, where the other man also stopped. One motorcyclist blew a .117 and the other blew a .061. Both men were transported to the Liberty County Jail for processing.
