POSTED: August 30, 2012 7:00 a.m.

Aug. 12: Burglary, Forced Entry, Residence — A Hinesville police officer responded to a call from a resident at 601 Tupelo Trail about a break-in. The resident said he had been on vacation from Aug. 3-12. When he returned, he found his back door was open and a door window next to the door knob broken. The officer noticed several hand tools in the vicinity of the back door that could have been used to break the glass. Items reported taken included an $8,000 diamond ring, two televisions worth $3,500 and an AK-47 assault rifle valued at $500.

Aug. 16: Aggravated assault, gun — Two Hinesville police officers responded to reports of gunshots fired on Liberty Street at around 2:30 a.m.

During their investigation, the officers saw two men running between the apartment buildings.

They also found four .40-caliber shell casings and noted one shot went through the window of an apartment where a child was sleeping. The case was turned over to a detective for further investigation.
