Bradwell Institute’s boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Saucony “Feed Your Strong” XC Kickoff Classic in Daffin Park on Saturday.
There were 26 teams represented with about 600 runners spread in four different divisions.
The boys team placed 4th overall and the girls team placed 5th.
The boys were led by senior David Thornton, who finished 3rd overall with a time of 16 minutes and 58 seconds.
He was followed by Jamorris Hill, Dakeem Carlton, Emmanuel Billings, Desman Martin and Taylre Moore who finished 13th, 32nd, 33rd, 49th, and 52nd, respectively.
The girls were led by Aaliyah Howard who finished 13th overall with a time of 22:20.
She was followed by Alicia Santiago, Jaelin Sample, Erina Veliz, Ashley Riles and Shaunquelle Sapp who finished 12th, 30th, 34th, 35th, and 64th.
Both BI JV teams placed 1st in their divisions. The girls were led by freshman McKailyn Darsey who finished 2nd overall with a time of 14:33. The boys were led by junior Jason Clayton, who finished 3rd overall with a time of 12:18.
“I believe it was a very good showing for our team. Several of our athletes ran personal best times and we also have a bunch of kids who had never competed in a cross country race before,” Tigers cross country coach Brian Williams said.  “Once we get some more race experience I believe we can be a very good team.”
Bradwell next meet is Sept. 8 in Jacksonville.
