First Presbyterian Christian Academy will break in its new uniforms, cleats and team for its inaugural football season tonight hosting Bethesda at 7:30 at Long Bell Stadium in Hinesville.
First year head coach and FPCA’s athletic director Andy Yanzetich said he has 19 dedicated players who will play both ways against the Blazers that took the Georgia Independent School Association Region Class A South title 2007.
The Highlanders have a lot of multi-sport athletes but the coach is concerned fatigue could be a factor.
“Conditioning is a big thing,” he said. “They understand it and they want to do it (play football) so we will find out late in the third and fourth quarter how good we are.”
The coach said his team did well in a scrimmage against another small school and said the first game is important.
“It’s very important especially going against a team that has been in the playoffs the last couple of years,” he said. “Once we get our feet wet win lose or draw they will realize they can compete with anybody.”
Bethesda is coming off a 27-14 loss against Mount de sales Academy last week.
“I was pretty impressed with the team they have,” Yanzetich said. “We are just going over a few last minute things on special teams and blitz coverage….and all the way down to the little things like bringing first aid kits, water and ice…”
