The Long County High School softball team recently hit a bump in the road, resulting in a four-game losing streak.
On Sept. 5, the Blue Tide were swept by Bryan County in a doubleheader in Ludowici, 4-3 and 3-0.  This past weekend, the Tide traveled to Hazlehurst for the Midseason Classic Tournament and lost to Telfair County, 7-2, and Bleckley County, 7-5.
Lady Tide head coach Brian Thomas said there are a combination of reasons why the girls have gone on a losing streak.
“Bryan, Telfair and Bleckley are all quality programs that are where we want to be in the near future. Good competition allows us to see what we need to work on to improve as both players and coaches,” he said.
Though the team has slipped, Thomas said that much of his team is playing good ball, and that he won’t be making any changes.
“Our infielders have been doing a good job making routine plays, and our pitching has been pretty good, too,” Thomas said. “We aren’t going to deviate from our plans. A play our way here or there, and we are winning those games. We just have to stay focused and maintain belief in ourselves and the team.”
With the losses, the Lady Tide’s record dropped to 6-6 overall and 1-4 in the 2E-AA sub-region.
The Tide were scheduled to play a doubleheader against McIntosh County on Tuesday in Darien.  The Lady Bucs entered the twinbill atop the sub-region with a 10-2 overall record and a 4-0 region mark. Results were unavailable at press time.
On Friday, the Lady Tide are back home to face St. Vincent’s Academy in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
Erica Golden, the Tide’s lone senior, will be honored during senior night.
