Bradwell Institute heads today to Folkston to take on the Charlton County Indians at 7:30 p.m.
The 2-A Indians are 1-1 after beating Brantley County, 20-0, in their first game but falling to the Ware County Gators, 31-0, last week. The Tigers are 0-2 going into tonight’s battle.
In 2010, the Indians clocked the Tigers, 42-10; last year, the Tigers gave a tough fight but lost, 22-14.
Tigers coach Jim Walsh said the Indians run the spread offense and are not likely to pass as much as they have in the past because they have a strong running back this year.
He added the Indians will run a 4-4 or 3-5 defensive scheme.
“We have an idea of what they plan to do, but it comes down to us being able to execute,” Walsh said. “And we haven’t executed in the last two games. We had opportunities, and we left points out on the field in both games. We had two opportunities to score in the Savannah game and be up, 21-7, at halftime, but we blew it.
Walsh said mistakes cost them points against Savannah last week.
“In the first three or four drives against Savannah, we killed the drives with turnovers and you are not going to beat anybody doing that,” he said. “I don’t care how good or how bad they are.”
The Tiger defense held strong last week by keeping the Blue Jackets from running up the score.
Tiger Stephon Green had six tackles, four assists and two quarterback pressures. Shakazz Johnson had five tackles, four assists, one tackle for loss and a sack.
Walsh said the team needs to build their confidence and stay focused in order to prepare for the remainder of the season and earn region wins.
“This is our last non-region game, and we have an open week after that, so we have this week and next week to get it together before we start region play,” he said.
