Long County High School will be facing one of the toughest teams on their schedule tonight when Vidalia High School comes to Ludowici.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Veteran’s Stadium.
Last year, the Indians finished with a 6-4 record, which by their standards is a subpar season.  During the past two years, Vidalia has had Long County’s number, winning both games by a combined score of 86-7.  This year the Indians come into the game undefeated with wins over tough West
Laurens High School (21-14) and McIntosh County (27-18).
The Blue Tide started strong this season by defeating Lanier County, 30-6, but last week, they were handed a 39-0 loss by Benedictine last week in Savannah.  One of the reasons that the Tide lost the game was fumbling the ball six times and losing four.  The Tide also committed several big penalties that shut down offensive production and helped the Cadets move the ball.
On a brighter note, the Tide’s defensive line and linebacker corps played solid, led by middle linebacker Jeffery Hall, who was selected at the Overtime Sports Bar and Grill defensive player of the game.  If the Blue Tide is going to have a chance of stopping the Indians, Hall and the rest of the defense will have to play another good game.
On offense, the Tide will need to run the ball more effectively than they did last week if they want to pull off the upset.  During last week’s game, tailback Josh Berry injured his elbow and, according to head coach Ron Flott, is day-to-day.  If he is unable to go tonight, the Tide will rely on Vanda Vareen, last week’s Coastal Courier player of the game.
Flott said that his team will have to play “solid fundamental football” if the Tide are going to be able to compete against Vidalia.
