The Hospital Authority, Hinesville City Council and Liberty County Commissioners broke ground at the Lewis Ashmore Medical Park and future home of Liberty Regional Medical Center on May 8, 1997, and celebrated the hospital’s grand opening on Nov. 22, 1998.

LRMC’s 70,000 square foot facility at 462 E.G. Miles Parkway is a full-service medical center, serving more than 50,000 patients from the area. State-of-the-art technology, caring nurses and staff, clinical and non-clinical personnel and world-class physicians provide advanced healthcare services for the community.

In 2010, LRMC was named the hospital of the year by Home Town Health for prestigious achievement by a rural hospital. That same year, the center received the 2010 Coverdell Champion Hospital of the Year in recognition of the hospitals contributions to The Georgia Coverdell Stroke Registry and its STROKE Excellence.

Today, services include admissions and outpatient, blood drives, cardiopulmonary, community service and volunteers, education, emergency, EMS, laboratory, medical-surgery unit, maternity, pharmacy, radiology and imaging, rehabilitation therapies, surgery and a skilled nursing facility at Coastal Manor.

The hospital's history started as Liberty Memorial Hospital at the end of 1961 with the construction of a 28-bed, acute care hospital on Highway 84. In 1974, the beds were increased to 50 with the addition of 28,000 square feet. In 1983, the hospital underwent further renovation with an 8,000 square foot addition.

When the name changed from Liberty Memorial Hospital to Liberty Regional Medical Center in July 1994, the hospital’s mission expanded to “provide exceptional healthcare services to Coastal Georgia and to position ourselves to be a catalyst and partner for economic expansion and growth. Through our available resources, we will provide accessible, affordable and dependable healthcare, along with wellness, prevention and outreach services to meet the needs of Coastal Georgia.”

Scott Kroell serves as the CEO/administrator.

The Hospital Authority of Liberty County current trustees are Jon Long, chairman, James Rogers, vice chairman; Will Darsey, secretary/treasurer; Reginald Pierce Sr.; James Thomas, Alan Baroody and Dr. Bobby Herrington.

Harwell is marketing director for the hospital.
