McGowan Memorial Junior Rodeo
The seventh annual Shawnee McGowan Memorial Junior Rodeo will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at the N.C. Ranch in Ludowici. Admission is $5; children 5 and younger are admitted free.
Since its inception in 2006, the rodeo has raised more than $45,000 for the Long County School System’s clubs and scholarships.
The event is done in memory of Shawnee McGowan, a Long County student and barrel racer who died in a tragic accident.
The rodeo features barrel racing, team roping and pole bending, along with games such as mutton bustin, steer scrambles and a toy scramble. There also will be a bicycle giveaway and food.

Sunbury 5K on tap
The third annual Sunbury 5K will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 6 in Sunbury. Registration is $30. All proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and the American Diabetes Association. Adidads Phenom hoops camp
The Adidas Phenom fundamentals basketball boot camp  is set for Sept. 29-30 in the Richmond Hill Recreation Center, 508 Timber Trail. The camp concentrates on discipline, fundamentals, education and development to prepare participants for the next level of competition. The camp is open to players in fifth through 11th grades. Registration is available online at  www.phenomamerica.com. Participants will receive a one-year membership to the Phenom Advancement Program, a Phenom reversible jersey and shorts.
The camp’s trainer is Tico Brown, the Continental Basketball Association’s all-time leading scorer. Brown also played in the NBA. For more information, call Chris Stacy at 912-695-0481 or Steve Williams at 912-257-9241.

St. James camp
The second annual St. James Sport Center Fundamental Basketball Camp will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the St. James Sports Center in Holmestown. Open to boys and girls in fifth through ninth grades, the camp is free, but campers must be registered. Participants can register at the center. Twenty campers will be named all-stars, and the MVP will receive a free Nike T-shirt and basketball.
A basketball game between Fort Stewart’s Youth ChalleNGe Academy and the Coastal Crew Rebels’ Elite team will follow the camp. Tip-off is at 2:30 p.m., and the game is free and open to the public.
