Lady Tide enter playoffs after DH split with Metter

POSTED: September 24, 2012 10:09 a.m.

The Long County High School softball team wrapped up its regular season Thursday by splitting a doubleheader at Metter High School.
With the outcomes of the games affecting playoff seeding, the Lady Tide shut out the Tigers, 5-0, in the opener, but Metter squeezed out a 9-8 win in the second game. Long County ended the regular season with an 11-9 overall record and a 6-6 record in Region 2-AA, while Metter also finished their year with an 11-9 overall mark but posted a region record of 7-5.
The Lady Tide enter the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in Sub-region 2E-AA. At 4:30 p.m. Monday, they host Atkinson County, which ended its season with a 1-14 overall record en route to the fifth seed in 2W-AA.
When the two teams met earlier this month, the Lady Tide swept the doubleheader, 8-0 and 12-1. The Lady Rebels have struggled on offense, averaging 1.5 runs a game while allowing 10.5 runs. The Lady Tide are scoring 6.7 runs per contest and allowing 3.8 runs.
The winner will move on to a best-of-three series against the winner of the St. Vincent’s Academy-Jeff Davis/Toombs County game. St. Vincent’s ended as the No. 5 seed in 2E-AA despite going winless in the regular season. The fourth seed in 2W-AA had not been decided at press time.
