Jesup drive-in theater goes digital

POSTED: September 29, 2012 4:00 p.m.

An old-fashioned entertainment venue is celebrating a modern advancement as the Jesup Drive-In Theater invites viewers to check out its digital projector.

The theater, which opened in 1948 and claims to be Georgia’s oldest venue of its type, has done away with celluloid visuals and installed a projector that promises crisp, clean images with better color saturation, according to the business’ Facebook page.

Spokesman Ward P. Riggins III estimated that about 40 percent of the theater’s customers were from Jesup and about 30 percent come from Hinesville and Fort Stewart.

This fall, the theater is open Thursday through Sunday. Gates open at 7 p.m., and the first features begin at 8 p.m. Double features are shown unless prohibited by the film company, the website said.

Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for military-service members, and $3 for and children ages 4-11. For movie listings, call 912-427-7254.
