State cancer summit reviews planning

ATLANTA — Key elements of the roadmap for cancer control in Georgia for the next five years will be presented and discussed at the Georgia Cancer Coalition’s Cancer Summit, Jan. 14-15 at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center, 800 Spring St. in Atlanta.
Health care providers, caregivers, educators, researchers, administrators and business and civic leaders from across the state are invited to attend the two-day Summit which will review best practices and strategies for implementing effective statewide cancer programs. Sessions will focus on issues addressed in the Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan, including Prevention and Education; Diagnosis and Staging; Treatment and Palliation; Tobacco Use Prevention; Survivorship and Disparities.
The keynote speaker is Georgette Porter, senior vice president for Georgia, American Cancer Society, who will talk about their “Access to Care” initiative.  Coalition President William Todd will address the current and future priorities of the Georgia Cancer Coalition and Dr. Stuart Brown, director of the Division of Public Health, will address issues that are key to Georgia’s Department of Human Resources.
The Summit is presented by the Georgia Cancer Coalition, with funding from the Georgia Department of Human Resources, the American Cancer Society and Sanofi Aventis.
