TYBEE ISLAND – For the fourth consecutive year, Tybee for the Holidays will offer plenty of family fun to brighten the holidays. Special holiday activities planned from Thanksgiving through New Year’s make the holidays a good time to visit Tybee.

“We warmly invite visitors to celebrate the holidays the Tybee Island way,” said Mayor Jason Buelterman. “There is no better place to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas or Hanukkah, and to ring in the New Year, than on Tybee Island.”

The month-long event attracts visitors from across the Southeast and around the country.

Holiday highlights:

• The Tybee Floating Christmas Parade, which features decorated boats, skiffs and yachts departs from the dock at the Crab Shack at 7 p.m. Nov. 30.

• The Lights On for Tybee Celebration begins at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7, when Buelterman lights the Christmas tree at the Tybrisa/Strand Roundabout. The evening will include live entertainment, extended store hours, refreshments and offers at locations throughout downtown. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will also be there.

• The Tybee Island Christmas Parade kicks off at 1 p.m. Dec. 8, running from the 14th Street parking lot to the YMCA on 5th Street.

• Tybee Island will explode New Year’s Eve Fireworks on Dec. 31 to ring in 2013 at midnight. Watch from the pier, the beach or anywhere on the east side of the island.

• The following morning, the annual Tybee Polar Plunge will offer the opportunity to jump into the Atlantic Ocean for a brisk and refreshing way to start the year. It's at the pier on the island’s south end.
