The Long County High School football team takes to the field tonight for its homecoming game with Toombs County in Ludowici.
Kickoff is at 7:30.
The visiting Bulldogs come into the game with an overall record of 4-2 and a 3-2 mark in Region 2-AA.
According to Maxpreps’ high-school rankings, they are ranked as the No. 27 AA school in Georgia.  They have been consistent on offense by averaging 24 points a game.
On defense they have been stellar, allowing only seven points per contest.
Two weeks ago, they were defeated by McIntosh
County, 33-12, and were off last week.
Like the Bulldogs, the Blue Tide ? ranked No. 32 in AA ? is coming off both their bye week and a loss.  Two weeks ago, the Tide were defeated by Bacon County, 34-21 .  They have a 3-3 overall record and 2-3 record in 2-AA. They’re averaging 21 points a game while giving up 23 points per contest.
The statistics indicate that the game should be a good one, with neither team having a decisive edge.  When looking at common opponents, both teams still look pretty balanced, having endured losses to Bacon County and claimed wins over Bryan County. However, in head-to-head outings, the Bulldogs have a 2-0 edge over the Blue Tide, which includes last year’s 34-13 win.
Long County coach Ron Flott said that he expects a tough game, with keys to the game being the offensive and defensive lines.
“They are a big, physical team; for us to be successful our offensive line has got to sustain their blocking assignments and our defensive front has got to keep a low pad level,” Flott said.
Tonight’s game will feature the crowning of the 2012 LCHS homecoming queen.  This year’s nominees are Kirshana Calhoun, Tossiana Hamilton, Ashley Murphy, Raven Rose and Shavonta Turner.
Tickets for the game are $7 dollars apiece.
