Bradwell Institute fell to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in Region 3-AAAAA on Friday after Glynn Academy crushed the Tigers, 55-0, at Olvey Field.
The Red Terrors used their top running back, Jonathan Alford, to penetrate the Tigers’ defense. Alford scored three touchdowns and rushed for more than 100 yards in the first half alone.
Glynn employed strong special-team play in the opening quarter. On an early drive, Tigers punter Robert Miller, under pressure from the Red Terrors defense, got off a short kick that gave Glynn the ball at the Tigers 48.
The Tigers defense responded, stuffing  the Red Terrors on fourth-and-inches near the Tigers 20. However, Tiger quarterback LaBaron Anthony was tackled for a loss, had a pass dropped and had to recover a bad snap. The Red Terrors rushed Miller again, and the punt fell at the Tigers 43.
That’s when Alford went to work. On fourth down, Alford broke free near midfield and rushed to the Tigers 19. Another Alford rush got the ball to the  4, and shortly after, Emmett Thomas scampered in for a touchdown as the visitors went up, 7-0.
Later, with the ball at the Red Terrors 40, Alford peeled off a 27-yard run. Two plays later, he rushed to the 3, and Quamii Haywood followed that by punching it through for a touchdown as the second quarter got under way. They missed the extra point, but were up, 13-0.
The Tigers drove to midfield before Anthony’s pass was picked off, and the Red Terrors got the ball at their 33. Two plays later, Anthony again notched a long run, going from near midfield to the Tigers 17. They gave him the ball again and he scampered in for a 17-yard touchdown.
Alford scored just minutes later when the Tigers muffed the ensuing kickoff and the Red Terrors recovered at the Tigers 26. It only took Alford one play to rush the ball through the end zone, and the Red Terrors were up 27-0.
With a minute before halftime, Red Terror Kenneth Cross rushed for 23 yards to the Tigers 27. Alford came back in and rushed for 22 yards in two plays and eventually scored on an 8-yard screen pass.
It was 34-0 at intermission.
Glynn continued to push the running game breaking down the Tigers’ defense as the Red Terrors offense added three more touchdowns in the second half.
Glynn improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the region.
Bradwell travels to Richmond Hill on Friday. The Wildcats lost Friday to Ware County, 27-24, to fall to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the region.
