SAVANNAH — Savannah's police chief is calling on witnesses to come forward after a shooting at the Coastal Empire Fair that wounded seven people, most of them teenagers.

About 15 males, who appeared to be in their teens, converged on the midway around 10:40 p.m. Saturday, police told The Savannah Morning News. A witness told investigators that at least one of them had a gun in his waistband, Police Chief Willie Lovett said.

No one was killed in the gunfire, but seven people were treated for gunshot wounds at area hospitals, Savannah-Chatham County police spokesman Julian Miller said.

Witnesses described seeing a gunman wearing a dark jumpsuit. No arrests had been made by early Monday.

Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson planned a Monday news conference to discuss the shooting.

The Georgia Coastal Southern Christian Leadership Conference is planning to hold an emergency meeting on the shootings at 6:30 p.m. Monday, WSAV-TV reported.

The SCLC said in a statement that it's asking parents, elected officials, school administrators, pastors, and community members to attend the meeting about what the group called ongoing violence in the area.
