Habitat for Humanity Savannah, along with partners Oglethorpe Mall and Savannah Rum Runners Bakery and Café, invite families to craft their own gingerbread dream house during a workshop at Oglethorpe Mall on Dec. 1 at 2 p.m.  The workshop will be near the fountain next to the Soft Play in the JcPenney’s Court.

The “Gingerbread Workshop” will offer an afternoon of fun, culminating in each participant decorating a dream house confection using sugar, candy, icing, and gingerbread.  Leading the workshop is Meggan Hartley, a pastry chef and proprietor of Savannah Rum Runners Bakery and Café. She will offer parents and their young charges expert advice on the how-tos of gingerbread house making.

While Habitat will have volunteers on site to assist, parental supervision is required.

A per-participant donation of $20 is required. Proceeds will help build homes for families in need.  Walk-ins are accepted, but advance registration is encouraged given space limitations.

“Families, at this time of year, gather at home to reflect and reminisce about the past year,” said Virginia Brown, executive director of Habitat Savannah.  “At Habitat, we encounter numerous deserving families that consider a safe, decent, affordable home a luxury beyond their grasp.  With the community’s support, we will continue to work toward a community where that is not the case.”

To reserve your spot, contact Michelle Hunter, Habitat Savannah’s resource development manager, at (912) 353-8122 or hunter@habitatsavannah.org.
