The Long County High School football team hopes to make history tonight.  
Going into the game at Metter, the Blue Tide have a 4-5 overall record; if they can pull out a win, they will post their first non-losing season and their most wins in a year.  
In 2007 and 2008, the Tide were in this same position going into the final contest, but both times, they fell to Pierce County to end their seasons with 4-6 marks.  
Though the Blue Tide lost to McIntosh County last week at home, they had their opportunities.  
For the season, Long County has scored 211 points for an average of a little more than 24 points a game.  On defense, they have allowed 201 points, or 22 points a game.  In Region 2-AA, they have a 3-5 record and, according to MaxPreps, they are No. 29 in the state’s AA rankings.
Metter comes into tonight’s game with a 2-7 overall record and a region mark of 2-6.  
The Tigers have struggled to score this year, notching 103 points for an 11-points-per-game average.  On defense, they have allowed 252 points, or 28 per night.  
The Tigers, No. 45 in AA per MaxPreps, are coming off a lopsided 42-7 loss to Bryan County.  
Looking at common opponents, the Blue Tide defeated Bryan County, 20-13.  Long County also defeated Jeff Davis 48-0, but the Yellow Jackets were able to beat Metter, 23-21.
Both the Tide and the Tigers defeated Atkinson County, with Long County winning 47-6, while Metter won, 14-6.
