Members of the Long County of Chamber of Commerce got together Tuesday at Pop’s Pizza in Ludowici for a Business After Hours event.

The meeting was a time for members to have fun and enjoy a meal together, while also recruiting new members and discussing upcoming events.

“Our Business After Hours events provide the opportunity for us to highlight businesses in our community...the owners get a chance to show off their establishment,” chamber board member Elise Stafford said.

“We also hope that by having them, new prospective members will come out to be a part of the night, and then join our chamber of commerce,” she added.

After the group ate pizza, upcoming events were discussed. Stafford said the chamber will have its annual holiday fundraiser and auction at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Compass Worship Center in Ludowici. The event will include a meal, with the auction to follow. Items that will be auctioned off include trips, merchandise and sports memorabilia.

“People can come out, have a good meal, then find that special Christmas gift or something for themselves,” Stafford said.

According to chamber President-elect Don Melton, proceeds from the auction will fund two $500 scholarships. One will be awarded to a graduate from Long County High School who is planning on attending college, and the other will go to an Altamaha Technical School student.

It also announced Tuesday that the Christmas parade and tree-lighting ceremony would be Dec. 8, and the chamber’s Christmas party would be Dec. 11.

Other officers of the Long County Chamber of Commerce include Kadee Dasher, president; Rita Deen, secretary; Joan Robbins, treasurers; and board members Cathy Atkins, Deotha Johnson, Terry Sellars and James Wasdin.
