Willie Jeffries, the first African-American head coach of a NCAA Division I-A football program, will address the audience as the keynote speaker at the ninth annual Liberty County Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet, which is set for 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at Fort Stewart’s Club Stewart.

In his 29-year coaching career, Jeffries compiled a 179-132-6 record. He coached at his alma mater, South Carolina State University, for 19 years in two separate stints (1973-78, ’89-01). He also coached at Division I-A Wichita State University (1979-83) as well as Howard University (1984-88).

Jeffries has the most wins in the 107-year history of South Carolina State University and is the owner of more Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victories than any other coach.

Tickets for the banquet must be bought in advance for $20 and will not be sold at the door.

RSVP by Dec. 1 by calling 912-369-4572 or emailing
