With only two players returning from last season’s 2-10 team, First Presbyterian Christian Academy’s girls’ basketball squad will be learning the ropes again this season.

“We will be a new and revamped team, and we are trying to get a feel for everybody right now,” FPCA coach Rosby Frasier said.

Top scorer Aliyah Wilson and top ball handler T’era Alston graduated, leaving big spots to fill this season. The Lady ‘Landers have veteran Brooke Standard back, and Frasier said she is looking at her to lead the team this year.

Frasier said the girls are athletic and quick this year.

“We are working on our ball handling and our inside game but speed is going to be our key,” she said.

The ’Landers will start their season Nov. 30 when they host Fort Stewart’s Youth ChalleNGe team at St. James Sports Center for a scrimmage.

FPCA opens the regular season Dec. 11 versus Appling Christian in Baxley, and starts Georgia Independent School Association Region 2-AA play Jan. 5 at Brentwood.

The Highlanders’ first region home game will have a tough challenge Jan. 8 when they play St. Simon’s Frederica Academy.

“Frederica has become quite the little rivalry from football to soccer to everything now, and we are looking forward to that game,” Frasier said.
