New e-news focuses on non-game wildlife

POSTED: January 29, 2008 5:02 a.m.
SOCIAL CIRCLE — Whether the subject is wood storks or bog turtles, right whales or sandhills, a new e-mail newsletter from the Wildlife Resources Division of the Georgia Department of NaturalResources covers the state’s wide range of nongame creatures and natural habitats.
The first issue of the bimonthly “Georgia Wild” was mailed this month. Topics include a big find for Rafinesque’s big-eared bats, how nongame work aids other wildlife and sportsmen, and new research exploring power-line habitat and nesting American kestrels.
Signing up is easy and free at www.georgiawildlife.com. (Click on “Nongame Animals & Plants” and the e-news signup link.) An archive copy of the first issue is also available.
“Georgia Wild,” it’s a quick way to stay up-to-date on everything from American oystercatchers to zigzag salamanders.
