Bradwell Institute senior Shaquira Smith recently became the first Liberty County resident to be named Miss in the Pink after competing for the crown in Griffin, Ga.

Smith competed in honor of Frankie Mae Brewton, who passed away Oct. 11, 2006, as well as all Liberty County breast-cancer survivors and warriors.

She also was crowned as part of the pink royalty court and received a 6-foot trophy.

The Miss in the Pink Pageant, sponsored by Crowntown and Georgia Pageantry, is held annually to raise funds to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization and other breast cancer awareness programs.

“Shaquira has a natural beauty that she should not change,” pageant Director Monica Daniels said. “She is beautiful and will make a wonderful ambassador for breast-cancer awareness.” Daniels has been involved in pageantry for more than 15 years. She said she enjoys mentoring young ladies to be all they can be.

“Although Breast Cancer Awareness Month will end on Oct. 31, the fight for a cure continues, and it is my job not to let anyone forget that,” Smith said.

The 17-year-old is planning to attend several events and activities throughout the year in Liberty County and surrounding areas.
Her future goals are to major in zoology and photography in college while continuing her softball career.

To book Smith for a function, call Daniels at 770-229-2249.
