A convicted local child molester who had been on the run since 2008 was arrested Tuesday in Puerto Rico.
According to Long County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Tom Sollosi, John Wayne Aceto had been wanted for failing to register as a sex offender in Liberty County and for absconding while on probation in Long County for two counts of child molestation. The detective said the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force in Savannah had been helping with the investigation. Information the marshals received led them to believe that Aceto had fled to Puerto Rico.
According to Sollosi, Aceto had been living in the U.S. territory for an extended time. The detective said Aceto will be extradited back as soon as possible to face his additional charges.

Other crimes
Sollosi also said that as the burglaries continue in Long County, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church fell victim sometime before last Sunday. Deputy Doug Diller was sent to the church on the report of four wheels and tires being stolen off the church’s van.
Diller said the complainant said he was preparing the van for a trip, when he noticed the wheels and tires were older than ones that had recently been installed. He said two church members told him they saw a silver Chevrolet pickup in the parking lot on Nov. 27, but had not thought much about it.
The Ludowici Police Department still is asking for help solving a robbery in September. Investigator Diannia Duncan said that on Sept. 22 two men robbed the Dollar General on Highway 84 at around 10 p.m. as the manager was closing. She said the men were armed with handguns, they forced the manager to the store’s safe and stole approximately $1,800. Duncan said both men are considered dangerous.
If anyone has any information on these cases, they are asked to call the LPD at 545-2222 or the sheriff’s office at 545-2118.
