BoE asking STC to offer classes for students

POSTED: January 31, 2008 5:02 a.m.
The first Liberty County Board of Education meeting of the new year brought new ideas for the county's high school students.
Interim Superintendent Harley Grove said the board discussed preliminary plans under which the Liberty County campus of Savannah Technical College would provide courses for students. He said the board was interested, but would need more information on specific classes available and the level of interest. Grove said he and his staff would meet with high school principals and others to consider a partnership with Savannah Tech.
Tuesday's meeting also marked the end of the STEEP program. STEEP is an intervention program for struggling elementary students who need academic assistance in reading and math. Grove said evaluation showed that the program was not effective and that it was being discontinued.
