With the Christmas break just about over, the Long County High School basketball teams are getting back into action.
The Blue Tide boys’ and girls’ teams are at Metter tonight and face Vidalia on Saturday in Ludowici. Tonight’s action begins with the girls’ game at 6:30  and the boys’ contest at 8.  Saturday’s games are 4 and 5:30 p.m.
The Tiger boys’ team comes into tonight’s game with a 4-7 overall record and a 0-3 mark in the 2B-AA sub-region.  The Tigers are coming off wins over Portal, 69-67, and Bryan County, 74-56. The Blue Tide go into the game with a 6-6 overall mark and are 2-2 in subregion 2B-AA. They also come in riding a two-game winning streak, having defeated Twiggs County, 70-48, and Redan, 57-54. On paper, tonight’s game looks fairly even. The Tide average 55 points a game, while the Tigers are putting up 53 points. On defense, Long County allows 59 points to Metter’s 57.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Tide and the Tigers have been struggling. Metter still is looking for its first win of the year, while Long County hasn’t fared much better with its 1-6 mark.
On Saturday, the Vidalia girls’ team brings in a 5-6 overall record and a 2A-AA mark of 1-1. When looking at the stat sheet, the two teams appear to be pretty well-matched on defense; the Lady Indians allow 51 points a game, compared with the Lady Tide’s 46. However, Vidalia appears to have the advantage on offense as it averages 50 points to Long County’s 25.
In the boys’ game, Vidalia has an overall record of 11-1 and are undefeated in the 2A-AA sub-region at 4-0. The Indians score 68 points per contest while allowing 46.
